The Ugly Taylor

„The Ugly Taylor“ wird als alternativer Titel zu „Nr. 26“ in Edward Buntings A General Collection of the Ancient Irish Music (1796) angegeben. Die Melodie wurde außerdem in Specimens of various styles of music referred to in a Course of Lectures read at Oxford and London, and adapted to keyed instruments von W. Crotch, Mus. Doc., Professor für Musik in Oxford, veröffentlicht.

Crotch, der von 1823 bis 1832 Direktor der Royal Academy of Music (London) war, hielt zwischen 1800–1804 sowie erneut ab 1820 Vorlesungen über verschiedene Formen nationaler Musik. Diese ließ er in drei Bänden binden, die allgemein als „Crotch’s Specimens“ bekannt sind. Die irischen „Specimens“, zu denen auch diese Melodie gehört, befinden sich in Band 1.
