The dear Black Maid

Die Melodie wurde erstmals vom Sammler Edward Bunting in seiner A General Collection of the Ancient Irish Music (Nr. 40, S. 22) veröffentlicht.

Thomas Moore verwendete die Melodie als Grundlage für sein Lied „How oft has the banshee cried“, das in seinen Irish Melodies erschien. Auch R. A. Smith nutzte sie für „Why weeps yon Highland maid?“ in seinen Vocal Melodies of Ireland, Ancient and Modern.

Ein Arrangement für eine „Temperance Band“ (zehnköpfige Holzbläsergruppe mit Hörnern) von James Barton wurde in der Dublin Magazine vom Januar 1843 veröffentlicht.
