Donal O'Sullivan (1958) konnte keine Informationen über Kitty O’Brian finden. Den zum Stück überlieferten Liedtexten zufolge lautete ihr Name jedoch Betty und nicht Kitty.
Der Sammler Edward Bunting notierte eine Version der Melodie („Catigh Ni Bhrian / Kitty O’Brian“) nach dem Spiel des Harfners Charles Fanning und veröffentlichte sie in A General Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland (London, 1796, Nr. 38).
